The celebration of Father’s Day in this modern age is one of the occasions which are widely celebrated in most of the countries of the world. But, Father’s Day does not have a history of hundreds of years according to some historians and on the other hand, some critics believe that Father’s Day has its roots of even 4000 years.
Some scholars also believe that the origin of Father’s Day meets to the ruins of Babylon and they also talk about a Father’s Day message card by a boy named “Elmesu” which was written around 4000 year ago in which he wished his Babylonian father for health life.
When it comes to the modern concepts, the origin of it goes towards the United States of America. There as a loving daughter named Ms Sonora Louise from Spokane who came forwards with this idea. The idea came into her mind when she once attended a Mother’s Day sermon. She thought that if mothers could be given such honor then why not fathers? From this point of view, she started her struggle for Father’s Day.
She started a campaign in this regard and fortunately she also got support of the local young men’s Christian association. She also succeeded in impressing the Spokane government of that time and then in June 19, 1910, Spokane celebrated Father’s Day for the first time.
After struggle of many years, a presidential proclamation was declared in 1966 about Father’s Day to be officially celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
